A Stonehenge Revelation….
https://phys.org/news/2023-10-stonehenge-upends-year-old-theory-discoveries.html
What if…what if…what if….it turned out to be an Orkney sandstone? There’s a thought to conjure with.
I can never resist an opportunity to mention Kurt Vonnegut. In Kurt Vonnegut's Sci-fi story 'The Sirens of Titan' the tale is, partly, of a little machine from the planet Tralfamadore, whose ship breaks down. He sends a message home asking for the part needed to fix his ship. And I quote........
"It was through this viewer that he got his first reply from Tralfamadore. The reply was written on Earth in huge stones on a plain in what is now England. The ruins of the reply still stand, and are known as Stonehenge. The meaning of Stonehenge in Trlfamadorian, when viewed from above is: "Replacement part being rushed with all possible speed."
Kurt Vonnegut isn't being serious – but I like the idea of Stonehenge being a message in Tralfamadorian - and not even an important message.
What particularly appeals to me in Kurt Vonnegut’s writing is his understanding of and compassion for humanity and how he uses his genre to write about that.
I have wondered what the sky makes of the spiral in our lawn…….

….maybe we’re saying "Hello" to..............whoever!
It has to be said - how much turns up in archaeology that makes sense from above? For example, there’s what I see as a similarity between the ‘Brodgar Eye’ and Kerbstone 18 at Newgrange…

There’s a pic of Kerbstone 18 in this blog post..…

The Year Moves On….
And so do the Kye. Yesterday afternoon the cows & calves were being brought home to the nearby farm after spending summer farther afield.
The neighbours were all warned to close their gates. We don’t have a gate, so Mike made a barricade across the driveway out of fish-boxes and ladders – then we watched the kye, go by – and they’re fine healthy cattle too - well covered and ‘clean’ - some poo & mud, obviously, but nice, ‘clean’ animals.
There was something of an air of festival about it all – neighbours out to make sure the cattle ‘went by’ - having a chat. When the cattle in the nearby field heard the others approaching they clustered at the gate – very interested. A neighbour’s Collie dog was ecstatic - dashing back and forth across the lawn.
Where would we be without the hard work of the farmers - out in all weathers?
