Looking back at an Orkney summer

As is always the case during an Orkney summer, you never quite know what the weather will throw at you. But when the sun is shining and the cloud cover is just right, you're guaranteed to get some beautiful sunrises and sunsets, and the chance to see our land and seascapes covered in colour. Local photographer Robbie Thomson spent much of the summer months out and about with his camera and his drone, capturing some stunning scenery from across the Orkney mainland. Now, as we slide into autumn, it seems like the perfect time to ask him to share the story of his summer.

Time for a story from Orkney

Tickets for the 2023 Orkney Storytelling Festival will go on sale from 1st October, with another packed programme of events planned over the last weekend of the month. The festival, organised by the Orcadian Story Trust, celebrates Orkney’s oral tradition and the art of storytelling around the world. Featuring story walks, special locations, island hopping adventures, and plenty of story sessions in-between, the festival has become an established and much-loved annual event on the Orkney calendar since it returned in 2010.
