Treasures From The Beach…..
Mike went for a walk along the coast near where we live - as far as the war structures at Queenamuckle - and brought back treasures!
We now have our own ‘Angel of the North’….
The elemental spiral has gone in a half-barrel given to us by a neighbour, with a Phormium, flowers, and some stones……
The glass is the bottom of a bottle of Whyte & MacKay’s whisky – maybe warmed the soldiers on a cold Orkney night? Whyte & Mackay’s was my tipple of choice at one time, then I drank too much of it in one evening (an evening of which I have a very patchy memory!) made myself very un-well, and haven’t drunk whisky since.
We think that the other piece of metal might have been a lamp of some kind – possibly a search light? It’s gone on top of a corner fence-post - watching over the veg patch…..

A Reminder….
We know someone who, after spending 20 days in a basement in her home town in the Ukraine being shelled – constantly - has escaped to Germany where she hopes to be able to find work and stay, as her Grandfather was German.
This is the reality – it’s still happening – people’s lives are being torn apart – or ended.
