This left my head spinning….

Re. the ‘Holy Stone’ – as well as The Odin Stone, what also springs to mind is the Holy Stone found pretty much centrally at The Cairns…

And Swandro Too….

A hearth isn’t just the centre of a home  - it also tells archaeologists a lot about what was happening in and around it – whether homely or ‘industrially’….

Added bonus…the Skaill Farm dig….

The Beacon…

As ‘Friends of…’ we receive the North Ronaldsay Bird Observatory…. https://www.nrbo.org.uk/ newsletter, and were pleased to see that the old lighthouse (aka The Beacon) has had the scaffolding removed. This was needed for repair and renovation but it did change the over-all effect, so I didn’t include a pic. of it in this piece...

Here’s one that I took when we were there – see what I mean?

That's a Raven, circling the tower......

Wonders and Visions by Adam Roberts and Graham Sleight

Wonders and Visions tells the story of science fiction through its most iconic, beautiful, interesting and (sometimes) crass cover art: from the earliest days of publishing in the nineteenth century through the glory days of Pulp magazine covers and the Golden Age, into the endless visual experimentation of the New Wave and so to the post-Star Wars era, when a 'visual logic' comes to dominate not just science fiction but culture as a whole.

Greg Benford, Nebula, award-winning author of Timescape.
