Good News – Potentially…. The Flesh-eating Slug of Gorseness….‘You Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone…’

Good News – Potentially….

To quote Georgina Rannard........

“The import, export and dealing of elephant ivory was banned in the UK last year. The animals that could join the list are killer whales, hippos, walruses, narwhals, and sperm whales.

The creatures are hunted and killed for their ivory which is often used in decorative carvings.

The government plans to extend the Ivory Act 2018 to include them.

People found to be breaking the law can be given unlimited fines or be jailed for five years.

Parliament must vote on the extension of the Act before it can come into force.”

If people didn’t buy it, the animals wouldn’t be hunted for it.  Simple as that.

The Flesh-eating Slug of Gorseness….

I didn’t know there were such things as flesh-eating slugs – I thought they just ate herbiage…until….

On the path by the veg patch, was a dead shrew. I don’t know if it died of natural causes or if a cat got it, but there it was – dead - and, stripping the flesh from its bones, was a big slug!

I have photographic evidence – but I’ll spare my gentle readers as it’s just too gross!

I ‘Googled’ – ‘Flesh eating slugs’ and found….

Trouble is…it’s from the Daily Mail – not the most reliable source for facts!

This should be more reliable…

The stuff that horror movies are made of - you have been warned!

This information is definitely suspect…

‘You Don’t Know What You’ve Got ‘Til It’s Gone…’

I received this from ‘Eko’… https://www.eko.org/about/

“In the deepest part of the Atlantic Ocean, where a volcano spews magma and smoke into the water at the incomprehensible temperature of 340° C, a team of research scientists just made an incredible discovery: an ecosystem swarming with deep-sea creatures uniquely adapted to the heat.

Nothing could make it clearer: we still don’t know the first thing about these deep ocean eco wonderlands. And yet greedy corporations are already hellbent on destroying it.

Whether this happens will come down entirely to what happens at meetings of an obscure UN body that regulates deep-sea mining – and insiders say the decision will be made *this year*. In fact, they’re meeting again in just a few weeks. If you don’t want to see the ocean floor torn to bits by mining companies, add your name and spread the word:

Click to say NO to deep-sea mining

This is the critical moment to act because the International Seabed Authority needs to decide this year how to handle the first application for a commercial deep-sea mining license.

More than a dozen countries from Costa Rica to Vanuatu are on the record opposing the mining until independent scientists agree it's safe. But free from almost any public scrutiny, mining lobbyists are swarming to ensure they can get to work destroying the bottom of the sea.

It’s incredible that these decisions that will affect the future of our planet and all its inhabitants are being made, right now, by a body that no one’s ever heard of. But that’s the reality. And if we don’t speak up as a united global voice, this is going to happen without us even knowing.

Here's the hopeful part. The Seabed Authority is meeting again in a matter of weeks. The officials that attend these meetings are not used to public attention. If we speak up they will notice.

We’ve seen what mining companies do on land. Let’s not let them do it to the last unexplored wilderness on earth:

Say NO to deep-sea mining

Thanks for all that you do,
Danny, Nick, and the team at Ekō
