More From the Tombs of the Isles Project…

Thanks to funding from the North Isles Landscape Partnership (NILPS), a team from ORCA (UHI Archaeology Institute) undertook geophysical surveys at three suspected Neolithic chambered cairn sites in Rousay, Shapinsay and Stronsay for the Tombs of the Isles project.

It could be said that Rousay hardly needs more archaeology – but it’s all of interest – all adding pieces to the puzzle which is the distant past….

From ‘Freedom From Torture’…. https://www.freedomfromtorture.org/ ….

“Yesterday, we commemorated Suella Braverman’s greatest achievement with a blue plaque at her constituency office: She’s closed the door to people seeking safety in their hour of greatest need.

Torture survivors are coming to us distraught and afraid. After fleeing torture to seek safety, kindness and a place to begin to heal, they’re now watching with fear as right-wing protests storm the streets outside. This hatred is fuelled by Suella’s cruel policies.

Right now, you can provide a lifeline and sponsor expert therapy sessions – and show torture survivors the UK isn’t made up of people like Suella.

We can only provide these sessions because of people like you, giving what they can.

People are experiencing the government’s hostile environment in so many ways - from not being able to work, to being sent to isolated accommodation away from their family and friends.

But you can personally fund a therapy session to give them a fresh start, meeting regularly with therapists, and working through the anxiety and trauma.

Bernie, because of you, a refugee who has fled persecution, war and torture could receive care for the first time. Your sponsored therapy session says “I believe you, I want to help.”

With messages of hate in the media every week, your welcoming support is needed more than ever.

Donate today to sponsor a session. £61 covers the cost of one full session with an interpreter, or £30 to cover a therapist's salary for the session.

I'll donate £61

I'll donate £30

I'll donate £15

Thank you for being part of our movement.

In solidarity,

Helen Clarke
Digital Fundraising Manager”

Oliver’s Army….

There has been a report, with accompanying images, of officers of the Metropolitan Police Force shooting two dogs and tazering their owner because the dogs were ‘out of control’.

The dogs were on leads, and it looks like the owner was trying to control them.

If absolutely necessary, the Police could have tazered the dogs. The way life is going in Britain today, the owner might consider himself lucky not to have been shot.

I was reminded of some lines from ‘Oliver’s Army‘ by Elvis Costello & The Attractions…

Only takes one itchy trigger
One more widow, one less white nigger”

I know – they were the Police, not the Army – but they appear to think that they have the powers of the Army – for that matter, of an army in a war zone – shoot first, ask questions later.

If more control isn’t imposed on the actions of the Police the situation will get worse and we’ll find ourselves living in a Police State…..hang on a minute…
