Otter - Stone - Water - Life..…

I saw this picture, taken by Nick Card,  on the Orkney Wildlife Facebook page…  https://en-gb.facebook.com/groups/133013273445588/

It’s extra-extra-ordinarily good, so I asked Nick was it OK for me to post it on my blog – and he said yes!

Otter. Stone. Water. Life.

I’m not feeling well at the moment and this picked me up by reminding me that I will feel better, and go walking, and engage with the life around me again.

Brilliant picture.  Otterly wonderful.

Stone Circling….

Kenny Brophy writes about the perception of whether a stone circle ‘counts’ or not…

Here I go again with my tuppenceworth…  https://theorkneynews.scot/2018/04/09/real-stones-and-fake-stones/

The same could apply to cairns…..

and cists….

It’s the thought that counts.

Do Viruses Stay In Your System?

About 10 years ago I was given too much medication for too long.  This wrecked my immune system and led to extreme illness, including contracting a bad digestive virus.

About 9 years ago, I crashed - emergency doctor - change of surgery - change of doctor who moved me from a medication-heavy regime of treatment to one which focussed  on physio-therapy and psychiatric help.

I began to recover, but what stayed with me was tiredness – a few other symptoms too, but the main thing which affected my life was tiredness.

I progressed, but in recent years, maybe because I’m older, I’ve found that if I get over-tired the digestive problems come back.

What’s the point of all this?  I’m wondering if the digestive virus I had - which was a stinker - is still with me, in my body, in my system somewhere, and does it assert itself when I’m in a weakened state?  Do viruses stay with us?  They are clever, they are survivors, and opportunists.

Also about 10 years ago Mike had a particularly bad ‘flu which left him with food intolerances – mainly dairy and wheat. We know two other people who had the same bug and the same resulting Lactose intolerance.   Possibly someone reading this had the same, and still has it.

Mike saw a dietician who worked him through the intolerances until he knew what he could eat and what he couldn’t.

Next thing – the wheat intolerance simply went away.  He still has the Lactose intolerance so, again, I’m wondering did that virus stay in his system?

And now there’s Long Covid – people have Covid - some die, some recover completely, some are left with tiredness and other symptoms – is this because the virus is still with them - in their bodies ?

Thinking along these lines, I’m now thinking I might try not to see this virus as my enemy – but as part of me.  Our bodies have gazillions of bacteria and other organisms living in them – mostly they don’t bother us, then something triggers them, and they do - and when they do, they can be fatal.

So – one thing I’m going to do is to try to focus on boosting my immune system, but I’m also going to accept that the Virus is still with me, and accept it as part of me – which it is.

Might seem a bit nuts, but I don’t see what else I can do to attempt to control or ease the situation.  I’ll behave myself and not get over-tired and, meanwhile – accept the little bugger as part of me. A slightly grudging co-existence. Like with the spiders who see our house as a Spider Sanctuary – I don’t clear the cobwebs until they’ve finished with them.

Our bodies are strange things – the complexities of which are definitely beyond my ken.

Thought For The Day…..

Try telling a gorilla you can’t get enough protein from plants.
