Ursine Connections….

Ursine Connections….

Bartholomew Barker is travelling.  On Friday he presented us with a Fraiku about jet-lag….

"Fraiku: Jet lag

I walk alien streets

Beneath clouds just crossed

Yet my head remains fogged"

Then - on Monday ….

"Haiku for the Moon

She shines her sideways smile

From too low in the sky

Polaris too high

Image taken from my hotel room with my phone. She looms much larger in my mind's eye."

So, I’m thinking he’s somewhere under different skies to those of North Carolina – and the planets are placed differently.  Polaris is Ursa Minor – small bear.  That’s me.  And here for Bart, on his travels in the land of my ancestors, is a poem – and a painting - about the bears – and the way home - by Mike….

The Way Home

Night sky reels over into darkness at last, as

North leans away from Sun.  And

Look, the Bears are back!

Summer’s done

Fulfilled, we look back over Light Years to

Where they point the way Home

Meanwhile – at about the same time yesterday evening  - taken from our front door….

‘I’m ready for my close-up now…..’

That's right, the moon is much lower in the sky than it would be when viewed from North Carolina and Polaris is much higher. It's all about being closer to the pole than I'm used to.

As you say Bart - we're all under one sky.
