Imagine…...‘Tis The Season….On-line Charity Auction…..

by Bernie Bell - 08:11 on 02 November 2022

Imagine…...

Another one that gets under your skin from Bartholomew Barker….https://bartbarkerpoet.com/

While Exploring Le Musée des Arcanes

His eyes follow me around the cluttered room,
this portrait of a man from another century—
painted by a skilled hand, fine brushstrokes
though the artist neither signed the work
nor identified their subject.

I gaze into his eyes, this man in a stiff collar
who posed by gaslight before my grandfather
was born, and can almost feel his boredom
and ego, wondering how he ended up in a gallery
in a narrow museum amongst curios and taxidermy.

Isn’t it strange how portraits feel like mirrors
if you stare at them long enough? The background
spins and the light dims and I can almost feel
that starched white collar clutching my neck
and though I wasn’t walking, I trip into the frame.

And now my spirit, never stirring, never sleeping,
never blinking, still is waiting, still is waiting
for some other fool to stare into my eyes once more.

‘Tis The Season….

….for comfort food.  That rare thing…..a recipe in m’blog…and it’s dead easy to make too….

Chunky Lentil, Potato & Bean Soup

Vegetable oil for cooking

Small tin of Red Kidney Beans – drained and rinsed ( or other beans if you like - or dried beans, pre-cooked)

1 large clove of garlic, chopped

1 large or 2 small potatoes, cut into smallish chunks

1 carrot, cut into smallish chunks

4 oz red lentils

1 ½ pints of stock – could be home-made… https://theorkneynews.scot/2022/02/05/waste-not-want-not-2/

1 tblsp tomato puree

Salt & Pepper

Heat oil in a large saucepan and gently fry the potatoes, garlic and carrot for a few minutes.  Add lentils and stir until they are coated with the oil.  Add stock, puree, seasoning and cooked beans.

Bring to the boil, then simmer with the lid on - stirring occasionally - for 20-25 minutes until veg is cooked through.

Serve with chunky bread or rolls.

Good for on a dreich day.
