Bearded Ladies….. Respect…. Bartholomew Barker Does It Again…..Un-earthing The Past…..

Bearded Ladies….

I was browsing through Steve Drury’s most excellent ‘Earth Logs’ when I came across this….  https://earthlogs.org/2016/10/21/palaeontologists-with-beards-some-shocking-news/

It’s a bit of a hoot – with a strong message – a very strong message indeed.   Something akin to this…. https://twitter.com/edburmila/status/1575117245000327170

The unfairness and disregard stretches across most areas of life – working and domestic.

Respect….

It’s good to read of an example of an ancient carving being treated with respect and placed in a situation suited to it.  I won’t witter on - Kenny Brophy says what there is to say about it - and says it well…… https://theurbanprehistorian.wordpress.com/2022/10/10/the-twice-named-stone/

I was reminded of this, in Kilmichael Glassary…. https://theorkneynews.scot/2017/10/06/bernie-bell-bernie-mikes-road-trip-spring-2017-8/

With Kenny’s blog - one read leads to another….. https://theurbanprehistorian.wordpress.com/2018/08/04/between-minister-and-reserved/

The stone, caged, between ‘Minister’ and ‘Reserved’ – the picture says it all.

Taming the stones…. https://theorkneynews.scot/2020/12/05/taming-the-stones/

Bartholomew Barker Does It Again…..

I was more popular when I drove a pickup.

She asked me to drop her at the airport

And I was happy to repay the favor

Until I discovered it also involved

Moving her out of my apartment.

He’s a great one for the un-expected punch-line!  https://bartbarkerpoet.com/

As Bartholomew is partial to visiting dead poet’s graves….here’s one well worth standing by….and 'seeing'....

Un-earthing The Past…..

About 40 years ago me old mate Martin set up a second hand record store - Terminal Records - in Haverfordwest, Wales…… https://www.facebook.com/people/Terminal-Records-Haverfordwest-with-Roy-Conolly/100064380354177/

At first he was thriving - then vinyl went out - then C.D.’s went out and music was mostly accessed by downloading.

Mart Feared that he might go out of business, but he persevered  and now the young ones can’t get enough of vinyl.  They enjoy the art work on the sleeves, the feel of handling the record, the clearer sound produced……… https://theorkneynews.scot/2019/12/23/music-re-cycling-the-ocean/

I still prefer C.D’s ….  https://theorkneynews.scot/2020/07/10/c-d-s/

When the Riverside Market closed Mart’s store moved to a location nearer the Old Bridge and yesterday I read this….  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-63193600

The article says that the site is on a ‘riverside’ location – the pic. includes a bridge – I’ve asked Mart is this near to his place……Blimey!

I covet those tiles.

PS....

Mart replied...."The St Saviour's graveyard previously underneath of the Ocky White store is about 60 yards from the Terminal emporium, appropriately enough. The graveyard must have been in use for around 400 years so it wasn't surprising that they were finding bodies stacked on top of one another. Nice tiles indeed!"
