Missus MacInnes….
I was reminded of Master MacGrath….. https://theorkneynews.scot/2018/10/05/a-bit-of-attitude/
Here’s a re-write for Fiona….
Missus MacInnes
Twenty Twenty-two being the date and the year
A Government henchman and more did appear
To re-enforce his position right through to the finish
Never counting on Orkney and Missus MacInnes.
On the twenty-eighth of September, that day of renown
NZ and his minders they found Stromness town
A massive great gas-guzzler soon drove them o’er
From Kirkwall to Stromness so close to the shore.
And when they arrived there in sweet Stromness town
They met with opposition – they soon were slowed down
By Fiona MacInnes – showing no fear
But letting them know that they weren’t wanted here.
Taking her stand, right in front of his car
Then permitting him passage -
With a smile and a wave
Showing what he has to offer is not what we crave.
If only they’d kept going, right into the sea
We’d have all cheered out loud – that’s how it should be
‘Get back to Britannia – we want none of your business
Scotland’s fine on its own’ – says Missus MacInnes.
******
And…
Raising A Glass
Let’s raise a glass
To Fiona MacI
She’s one of those
Who dared to ask “Why”?
Why are you here
In your big brutish car?
Why are you even
In the job that you are?
A BSc in engineering chemistry
Doesn’t fit you to dictate
Our destiny.
So let’s raise a glass
Of whatever you wish
To all those who stand up
And defy their pish!

And Now For Something Completely Different…..
Qiu Zhijie | Lara Favaretto | Nira Pereg
29 October 2022 – 18 February 2023
“Talbot Rice Gallery is proud to announce our new exhibitions by Qiu Zhijie (Beijing), Lara Favaretto (Torino) and Nira Pereg (Tel Aviv).
In his first solo exhibition in the UK,Qiu Zhijie occupies the whole of Talbot Rice Gallery’s historic Georgian Gallery with new series of ink-paintings and an atmospheric installation evoking an archaeological dig.
The White Gallery hosts Lara Favaretto's Momentary Monument - The Library, a monolithic bookcase displaying 2,488 unwanted books each containing a folded image from the artist’s archive. Visitors are invited to take away one of their choosing, thus dismantling the ‘monument’ and re-distributing its contents across the city.
In the upper gallery Nira Pereg’s multi-channel video installations are anchored in a documentary practice that both reveals and questions conflicting behavioural protocols that co-exist in spaces of geopolitical, religious, ideological and ethical significance.”
