Mainly fossiliferous…..

Look at this….just…look at it!!!!!

They found some bits of Ichthyosaur – there’s a whole one in the Fossil & Heritage Centre, Burray…..

I likes fossils – I gets excited about them.  Life from deep time.

Mike likes them too….

Lying on the sea shore

A piece of sea-worn old sea shore

Once mud, alive with ancient bivalves

A productive bed

Now a shell cemetery

A jumble of interlocking curves and spirals in banded cross-section

Silky smooth sedimentary rock

With the shades of grey of original mud

It fits in my palm

The roughly oval shape of an egg that’s been sat upon

Down down deeper and down….

‘Nowt to do wi’ Status Quo….

I watched a ‘60’s Sci-fi film ( ‘60’s Sci-fi - so near yet so far…)  called ‘Crack in the World’.  It’s about what happens when, and I quote…. “A plan to provide Earth with unlimited free geothermal energy goes catastrophically wrong.”    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crack_in_the_World

And I thought hmmmm - fracking…drilling…detonating…deeper and deeper…

I haven’t mentioned brochs for a bit…. https://twitter.com/TheBrochProject/status/1552713028155723776?cxt=HHwWgMC-lbiRrIwrAAAA

Mike built a broch!!!  https://theorkneynews.scot/2022/04/09/the-broch-of-gorseness-as-it-stands/

In for a penny…in for a pound….  https://theorkneynews.scot/?s=Brochs

The Caithness Broch Project calendar for next year is available –  https://www.thebrochproject.co.uk/shop/product/caithness-2023-calendar/.  We alternate between the CBP and the Orkney Archaeology Society – it’s the turn of the CBP this year, but I refuse to order a calendar until at least September!!!

Here’s one I made earlier….. ‘nowt to do wi’ fossils…..or brochs…. just summer eating….. https://theorkneynews.scot/2022/05/09/almond-raisin-pilaf-v/
