Dedication

This web site has been prepared to record the history of the men who carried the 'Baker' Troop flag between 1955 and 1957.

The Troop saw Active Service in Cyprus roaming the Troodos Mountains, living rough,  in pursuit of the self styled 'General' Grivas and his band of hard core terrorists. Then, after a brief peaceful interlude in Malta, took part in the first helicopter assault under fire in recorded military history at the invasion of Port Said in 1956.

For fifty nine years so far the members of this august unit have kept in touch by letter, telephone and latterly emails and have held annual reunions since 1958, celebrating the Golden Jubilee of their formation in the Officers Mess at Stonehouse Barracks in September 2005.  Since then, albeit smaller in numbers, the reunions have taken place at Stafford the approximate geographical centre of the country.  A memorial stone was dedicated to 'Baker' Troop in 2007 at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas in Derbyshire close to the RMA Memorial dedicated in 2008.
