THE CENTENARY OF 'ABDU'L-BAHÁ'SVISITS TO WOKING IN SEPTEMBER 1911
The Bahá'ís of Woking were privileged to host several historic events during the anniversary of 'Abdu'l-Bahá bringing the Bahá'í Faith to the British Isles in September 1911 On September 9th 'Abdu'l-Bahá had stayed with friends at Vanners, on the estate of the old Royal Manor, and on this date a large number of friends gathered at the Queens Head Inn, where members of his entourage had been billeted, before setting off on a planned walk around Byfleet Village 'In the Footsteps of the Master', being warmly received by the current owner of the Manor before returning to the Village Hall. Here guests enjoyed a presentation on the life and teachings of 'Abdu'l-Bahá, with an exhibition and a film about his travels in Europe and America from 1911 - 1913, when he returned to the Holy Land . A second programme took place at the Village Hall to commemorate 'Abdu'l-Bahá's second visit to Vanners on 28th September, when he also visited Brooklands Airfield, and on this occasion a film had been commissioned from a young member of the community http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxXuQSMqXR0 | ||||||||||||||||||
