Ian won the Hamlet Trophy on his virgin appearance in 2007 and despite a big improvement in 2008 he very nearly reclaimed the trophy in 2009 when he finished only two shots behind Ram Jam.

That standard is acceptable for a player that has never played golf before but there is evidence that Ian dabbled with golf as a junior! In fact Ian played in the 9 hole competition in the 1980 Junior Championships and finished with a gross score of 79 playing off a 9 hole handicap of 36 so there hasn't been much progress!!

Better known for playing rugby than playing golf, Ian is a former Orkney Rugby Club captain and has served the club faithfully over the last twenty odd years. He continues to serve the ORFC in his new capacity as a ref, although he still plays the odd internal game from time to time.
