When the Hall was renovated in 2000, a locked box was found in a cupboard. Inside was an amazing record of the 100 men and two women who had left Arisaig to serve in World War I - photos, postcards of war zones, diary extracts, recollections - all painstakngly collected by Lady Nicholson, in memory of her two sons who had died in the confluct. 

This amazing book is now available on CD for the price of £10, including postage and packing, from the Astley Hall. There are also two copies of the book which can be viewed by appointment at the Hall, or at Mallaig Heritage Centre during opening hours.
