Labyrinths brings many bennefits for individuals, the community and the environment.
Health benefits
Labyrinth walking benefits both physical and mental health by promoting gentle exercise, engendering a sense of quite contemplation and providing a sanctuary for connection with Nature. Walking a labyrinth is also a unique way to feed the spirit, providing an inspirational space for personal exploration. For many people labyrinth walking becomes a moving meditation; a chance to experience much needed peace, insight and greater clarity on life. Our plan is to use a flat pavement construction, bringing the uniqueness of the labyrinth to all, including wheelchair users. Labyrinths are used in a variety of care settings. A great example of this is found at the Dundee Maggie's Centre, where a beautiful cobbled labyrinth brings peace and tranquillity to patients, staff and visitors.
Social benefits
Creating a labyrinth helps to build social and community networks by encouraging shared experience between the generations through a joyful, fun and unique way of exploration.
Environmental benefits
Creating and walking a labyrinth is a unique way of respecting and connecting with Nature. By improving a neglected or underused piece of land, and through sensitive landscaping and appropriate planting we have a chance to create a haven for wildlife for the enjoyment of all.
Civic benefits
By bringing a labyrinth to Glasgow, we have opportunity to enhance the experience of the city for all people, residents and visitors alike.A labyrinth would add to the already rich cultural, artistic and environmental resources offered by the city and would exist as a place of pilgrimage or a jewel to be discovered. The Edinburgh labyrinth has become popular with residents and visitors – lets bring the same opportunity to our Glasgow.
