Local girls finding footballing form

Eight local primary schools fielded 5 a side football teams to enter the recent football tournament for girls. In 28 keenly contested matches that demonstrated a good range of ability from all the girls, the eventual overall winners of the tournament proved to be a delighted Helmsdale team who won all their matches, apart from a draw with Lairg. Very close overall runners up, were the Brora girls team, who were first placed amongst the 3 bigger schools in the area, Golspie, Dornoch and Brora. Cllr Deirdre Mackay, who presented the medals, gave a warm vote of thanks to pupils at Golspie High School who officiated at the event, as well as the teachers, parents and coaches who make such an important contribution to grass roots sports development.

Several girls from different teams are currently benefiting from the additional training at the Brora Rangers Youth Development Squad run by David Rose and his coaches on a Monday evening. Active Schools Coordinator, Louise Nadin, extended an invitation to all the young female footballers to contact David and get along to the sessions to develop their skills, get fit and have fun at Dudgeon Park at 6.30 – 7.30 on Monday evenings.
