Teams from Golspie, Lairg, Helmsdale and Dornoch secured medal winning places in this year’s inter primary schools basketball festivals held at Golspie High School recently. In total, 133 local primary school pupils took part in the popular annual tournaments which always prove to be exciting and nerve wracking for the parents, teachers and supporters as well as the young basketball players. Councillors Deirdre Mackay and Ian Ross presented medals at the girls and boys tournaments respectively and commented on the high standard of play, the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of the players and thanked everyone involved in the coaching and support of the teams. Particular mention was made of the contribution of the Community Sports Leaders, and other senior pupils at Golspie High School, who did a tremendous job of refereeing the matches, and who are making such a valued contribution to junior grassroots sport in East Sutherland.
