Welcome to Aberdeen Advanced Motorists
There maybe some difficulties with the website over the next few days as the website will be going through some changes. Sorry for any convenience caused
Aberdeen Advanced Motorists is one of four Groups affiliated to the IAM in the Grampian Region. The Group was founded over 40 years ago to promote road safety, and prepare Associates for the Advanced Driving Test. This remains our goal, and that of the IAM. We run two Advanced Driving courses in the year, one in the spring (February/ March) and the other in the autumn (August/September). The courses consist of four lecture evenings, followed by observed runs with a Group Observer, who will provide on-the-road guidance and any further clarification of the theory, in order to bring your driving up to test standard. The observed runs take place at times mutually agreed between the Associate and the Observer. It is expected that Associates will be ready for a pre-test assessment with one of our Group Senior Observers after 6 - 8 observed drives. The Senior Observer will point out any aspects which require further guidance from the Observer, before recommending the Associate is test ready. The test is carried out by an independent Examiner, appointed by the IAM - all of whom are current or retired Police Driving Instructors. We aim to have the associate test ready in 8-9 drives, but if you are not, do not be disheartened. Some folk take a lot longer, but we will get you test ready. No matter how long it takes.
For the cost of the Skill for Life package £139, you will receive four evening class lectures; observed drives; one year’s Associate Membership to the IAM and the Aberdeen Group; the test; a copy of the IAM Advanced Driving manual; a copy of the Highway Code; and various hand outs.
As a Member of Aberdeen Advanced Motorists, you will be invited to our monthly meetings held on the second Tuesday of the month – January to June and September to November. At these meetings we have guest speakers who cover driving topics, and other topics of interest - or we may have visits to car dealerships or other areas of interest to our Members and Associates. You will also receive a quarterly issue of our magazine.
When you have passed the Advanced Test, you become a full Member of the IAM, and Aberdeen Advanced Motorists. As a Group Member we would hope you would continue to support the Group, by attending the meetings; becoming a Committee Member; or becoming an Observer; and passing on your knowledge and skills to new Associates.
