How to reduce your water charges

At his time of year households are receiving details of water charges for the next twelve months.

Welsh Water state that there is a way of reducing your charges, and this by having a water meter installed.

The following info is from the Welsh Water website:

Switching to a water meter

If your unmeasured bill is high, you are a low user or you live on your own, you could save money by having a meter installed. A lot of our customers have already made the switch and found that a water meter works for them.

What are the benefit of switching to a water meter?

We’ll install it free of charge (for households only)

The less water you use, the lower your bill

Households with meters tend to use less water

You could save money.

Helps reduce your carbon footprint.

You can switch back to your unmeasured charge at anytime up to 2 years from the date the meter was installed.

OUR COMMENT:

What is not stated is that there is a standing charge of £11 a month for those having a water meter.

A trial period of 2 years appears to make the option very attractive.

A Welsh Water representative states that a saving of £300 per year can be made with a family of husband, wife and two children (you should confirm this - on the Welsh Water website there is a calculator to work out your payments if you have a water meter).
