Reader writes about homeless people

A question that someone has to answer

Why can't unused chapels and chuches be used for the homeless?

A readers writes on the I SAY page and says:

"Why can’t unused chapels and churches be used to give shelter to homeless people?.
Surely many charities, and even the National Lottery, can provide funds to make them suitable for occupation
The homeless occupiers would of course be expected to keep them clean and tidy.
Charity workers could supervise the buildings to ensure they are kept up to standard.
It is time that we cared for those less fortunate than ourselves. It is, after all, a Christian spirit, and the least our society can do."

Our comment:

It is a fact that in Neath and District there are several unused chapels that could shelter those who need a roof over their head.   Several of these buildings were listed the recent NPT Council consultation and the need to preserve the exterior on a heritage basis.   The interiors could certainly be modified for homeless people.

One such building is the Graig Chapel at the Lodge Crossroads, Briton Ferry - pictured above.
