Grave outlook at NPT cemeteries

Cemeteries in NPT are running out of space

A spokesperson at the NPT cementery office says that space is getting short at all the cemeteries in the Borough.

An outsde source says that a new one in being considered at Llandarcy - but this cannot be confirmed.

One solution to the space problem is Woodland burial plots where the deceased is buried in natural surroundings.   This would be with a coffin with no metal or plastic attachments.   A wicker or cardboard coffin is considered ideal as it would degrade naturally.

No memoral stones would be allowed as planting a tree on the spot would act as a memory.   The family of the deceased would see the tree grow to full maturity as time passes.

Currently there are no natural burial plots in the Borough, the nearest one is at a neighbouring authority - Oystermouth, Swansea, with another at Cardiff.

A website has been made for NPT residents to give the matter some thought.
