NPT grave action plan for 2020

NPT Council Cementry Checks in the New Year

Neath Port Talbot Council is responsible for nine Cemeteries, Margam, Goytre, Cymmer, Ynysymaerdy, Llantwit, Onllwyn, Giants Grave, Carmel and Godregraig and will be doing a safety check on grave stones in the New Year (2020).

Although the council is responsible for the heath an safety in cemeteries, it is up the famlies of the deceased to look after their graves.

There is,however, a problem when there are no living relatives or when a grave is so old that families cannot be traced.

Unsafe head stones will be laid flat and an effort will be made to inform relatives for them to attend to the matter.

In the UK, over the years, several people have beein killed by falling headstones, so it is understandable for the need of these safety checks.

There are few things worse than a neglected cementry, which reflects on a council or church authority, and NPT council are to be commended for their pending actions.
