Briton Ferry Train Stations

Briton Ferry train station reviewed on Youtube

An underused train station, for two reasons, the high rail fairs and the lack of trains stopping.   Out of eight trains passing through the station during the review, only one was shown on stop.

It may not be generally known that this station serves the line over the river Neath via the swing bridge, a line that by-passes Neath for journeys to West Wales.

There was talk about this line being used to by-pass Neath with a new station at Jersy Marine for Swansea Unversity en route to Swansea.  If this ever happened it would mean changing trains at Briton Ferry for travellers going to Neath and Skewen.

The reviewer gave the station full marks for its appearance with the beautiful Brition Ferry woods in the background.

According to Wikipedia, this station has around 35,000 passengers a year.

The station was built in 1994 and replaced the one near the same site, which opened in 1935 and closed in 1964 - pictured below:

Information source: Wikipedia.

The above station, with its four platforms, replaced three stations when it opened in 1935, one at Court Sart and two at Villiers Street: Briton Ferry East and West. The latter being the Swansea to Paddington line and the other two being the Rhondda & Swansea Bay line.   The Briton Ferry West station, which opened in 1850, is shown below:
