Monumental Masons / Sculptors

Yesterday, 15th September, 2009, I met a monumental mason, Dougie from Fife, who was working on the Montrose War Memorial at the Mid Links. We had an interesting conversation, and it was good to see how he added the new name to the list. Clearly, the fact that Dougie had come all the way from Fife to do this made me realise that there aren't many local people doing this work anymore.

Dougie trained as a stonemason, like his father before, but the demand for their skills is very different from what it was a century ago.

Who were the stonemasons/monumental sculptors working in the Montrose cemeteries around the 19th and 20th centuries?
