22/11 HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE (2014) New Zealand, Taika Waititi, Comedy/Adventure, 101mins, 12A. Raised on hip-hop and foster care, defiant city kid Ricky gets a fresh start in the New Zealand countryside. He quickly finds himself at home with his new foster family: the loving Aunt Bella, the cantankerous Uncle Hec, and dog Tupac. When a tragedy strikes that threatens to ship Ricky to another home, both he and Hec go on the run in the bush. As a national manhunt ensues, the newly branded outlaws must face their options: go out in a blaze of glory or overcome their differences and survive as a family.

13/12 LOCAL HERO (1983) UK, Bill Forsyth, Comedy/Drama, 111mins, PG. This tribute to rural Scotland’s irresistible charm is also the ultimate parable of going native. Texan billionaire Felix Happer despatches hot-shot executive "Mac" MacIntyre to buy up a Scottish fishing village. To his surprise, Mac finds the villagers receptive, but the plan is scuppered by the intransigence of a solitary fisherman who refuses to budge from his beach-side shack. As Mac becomes ever more embedded into village life, Happer decides to make a personal intervention. Forsyth’s unashamedly romantic evocation of Scotland is heightened by Mark Knopfler’s famous guitar score; the result is one of the most fondly admired British films of the 1980s.

10/1 ALL IS TRUE (2018) UK, Kenneth Branagh, Biography/Historical Drama, 101mis, 12A. In 1613 Shakespeare is acknowledged as the greatest writer of the age. 9/2 SORRY TO BOTHER YOU (2018) USA, Boots Riley, Comedy/Fantasy, 112mins, 15. In an alternate present-day version of Oakland California, black call centre worker Cassius Green discovers a surprising key to professional success. This propels him into a weird universe of "power calling" that leads to material glory. But the upswing in his career raises serious red flags with his girlfriend Detroit, a performance artist and minimum-wage activist who is secretly part of a Banksy-style activist collective. As his friends and co-workers organize in protest at corporate oppression, Cassius falls under the spell of his company's cocaine-snorting boss who tempts him with a salary beyond his wildest dreams.

This film will now be shown on March 6th
6/3 ALL THE PRESIDENT’S MEN (1976) USA, Alan J Pakula, Biography/Historical Drama, 138mins, 15.  In the run-up to the 1972 USA elections, Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward covers what seems to be a minor break-in at the Democratic Party National headquarters. He is surprised to find top lawyers already on the defence case. When Woodward and Carl Bernstein are assigned to the case, they find the trail leading higher and higher in the Republican Party, and eventually into the White House itself. An interesting watch in the lead up to the 2020 USA elections, that could never happen again - could it?
