Welcome to Scottish Gardens

There is something special about gardens, and their gardeners, in Scotland. Why? Some of the reasons may include
  • the fact that we often have to deal with more extreme weather than most other places in the British Isles.
  • the surrounding landscape is often so distractingly wonderful that the gardener has to work twice as hard to make a great garden
  • unlike our neighbours further south, there isn't the tradition of the "English Country Garden", or the grand Capability Brown designed landscape to live up to.
Whatever the reasons, I just love Scottish gardens and their individual response to their surroundings, whether they're big spreads with rhododendron collections and  Himalayan-style gorges, like Glenarn, oases in the midst of wild moorlands like the granddaddy of them all, Inverewe, or quirky wee plots in our burghs and villages.

In fact, there's just such a wee plot in Maryhill which is a real triumph of the spirit and next time I'm in Glasgow, I'll try to remember my camera...

On this website will be hosted as many photographs as I can manage to upload - when I'm not out there in all weathers, tackling my own wilderness in the hopes of making a garden which, if I'm lucky, will eventually turn out to be half as lovely as these.

More pages will be added from time to time, so do come back again in a while.
