Valentine weekend

by Julia Robinson - 22:05 on 18 February 2009

So, what did you get up to last weekend???? Dinner out with your significant other? (or maybe just with your sister, eh Hazel??) Did you receive a token of love? Flowers? Chocolates? Perfume? A card perhaps? No?? Me neither!!!

I've never bought into the Valentine's Day carry on because people only end up disappointed!! I know that sounds cynical, but it's not! I believe that romance is an everyday thing. If your partner buys you a gift just because they see it and think you'll like it, be glad - it means they're thinking about you!! I got a pen once. The person who bought it had upset me, and tried to give me the gift while I was still angry with him. I told him to keep it (well that's not exactly what I said but you get the idea!!!!) When I eventually calmed down and accepted the pen, I realised he'd been thinking of me at a time when I thought he wasn't and that made me appreciate the thought behind the gift.

So. If Valentine's Day wasn't all you expected, stop expecting anything and you won't be disappointed. Anything you do get will be a bonus!!!

By the way guys, if your partner says 'let's not do Valentine's this year'  What she means is 'I'll settle for a card, flowers and chocolates."

In case you were wondering - apart from visiting my mum in Elgin on  her 77th birthday on Saturday, I spent the weekend following the band (along with a few others) around Inverness. On Friday night we went to Macnabs. Saturday it was a trip to the Gellions before heading home for a quiet night in while Schiehallion were playing at a wedding in Fort George. Finlay's was the venue on Sunday, Had the macaroni cheese there (well, half of it thanks to Kenny!) and it was delicious.  As always, everyone seemed to be having a great time with plenty folk up dancing - and not just the ladies! You men are getting to be more adventurous as time goes on. I have some photos from the weekend, though not as many as usual. I'll put a couple up in the next few days.
