PUB QUIZ - 13th Nov 2015

The Pub Quiz held in aid of the Four Seasons Club was very well supported, raising a profit of £170. The question masters were Lily Byron and Ken Moreton. The prize-winning team was Dave and Mary Goulder, Moira and Ken Boothroyd and the team with the name which was judged the best, was "The Philantropisseds". An unusual activity took place during the first interval, when Ken Moreton promised a bottle of malt whisky to any individual who could answer "a very difficult question", which, when answered correctly by Mary Goulder, was followed by another "very difficult question", which was answered by Margaret Holroyd. The two ladies agreed to share the prize!

Having declared the sale open, Flower was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Josey Peirse Duncombe who lives with her parents, Richard and Pauline, at Durcha, the former home of Flower's parents.

In true community spirit, many local people, church go-ers and non church go-ers alike, pitched in to help run the stalls and the teas, to make the afternoon such a success.

VILLAGE HALL

We had hoped to have Rosehall Village Hall back in use in time for Christmas, but the last of the contractor's men left in the first week of December and that did not give us enough time to get all our furniture and stuff back into the Hall and stowed away in cupboards before the holiday started.

Our plan now is to bring the stuff back on Saturday 21st January.   We have a booking for 24th and the Youth Club will return on 29th.   So things are moving once more.

Rosehall now has a modern, well decorated, well insulated Village Hall which is looking for ideas.   What does the community need that we can provide space for?   Mum & Toddler groups?  Pilates?   Tai Chi?  Badminton   Art Classes?  Dance & Music?   You name it and provide someone to run it and we shall help to set it up.  The Hall is there to be used.

The renovation project, although it became delayed during the summer months,  was relatively trouble-free.  This was possibly helped by the fact that our architect; Douglas Stuart, is a fiddler. well known on the Highland folk music circuit and the contractor; John Fraser, Kiltarlity, is the son of Jock Fraser, a well kent box player.  Both have played Rosehall Village Hall, in the past and both have a respect for its atmosphere and excellent acoustics.

The Building Control people have raised a couple of small points that need attending to, but all in all, both the work and, perhaps more importantly, the financing of the project have, despite a few hiccups, run smoothly.  The work was completed within budget and to a high standard.

The Hall Committee went to a great deal of trouble to prove that the Village Hall is an asset to the community and that money must be spent to bringing it up to modern standards.  It is now up to the community to decide how to use it.

The Treasurer; John Bidwell, will be taking bookings for the next three weeks, but after the middle of February, bookings will be handled by Beverley Morrison, Altas email: bevmor10@btinternet.com

CHURCH OF SCOTLAND

We had a most successful few days this weekend raising much-needed funds to maintain the church. The Grand Prize Draw organised by Ronnie Patterson raised a magnificent £764.50 and was won by Bill Bruce, Fraserburgh who visits Corriemulzie each year. Thanks are due to the proprietors of both the hotel and Loch Ailsh for kindly donating the one-and-only prize and to all those who sold tickets, and bought them.

The Flower Festival, exhibition of old books, painting class and garden open at Linsidecroy raised £874.11 which was wonderful and due entirely to the efforts of all those who helped in any way to make the event such a success, be it by getting the garden to be right at the moment, providing flowers, arranging them, baking for the teas or doing a stint in the church - thank you all very much indeed.

The offering at the Songs of Praise raised £209 which will be divided equally between Médecins Sans Frontières for their work in Ivory Coast and Children’s Hospice Association Scotland.

The Friends of Rosehall Church of Scotland was formed in 1999 to raise funds to maintain the church and everyone in Rosehall and the wider area is invited to come along to services (12 noon each Sunday) or events held and you will be made most welcome. Keep an eye on the website's Calendar to see what is happening.

Rosehall Community Arts are holding a piano concert this Thursday at 8pm in the church - Robin Colvill has played here before and it will be good to welcome his return.

ROSEHALL YOUTH CLUB

On Saturday 17th April 2010 a team of four youngsters from Rosehall Youth Club competed in the Annual Fairburn Youth Club Challenge.

The morning events were the rope course and archery, followed in the afternoon by canoeing and zipline.

Rosehall won the archery event in which team members had to complete different tasks including popping balloons tied to the target to gain extra points.

In the canoeing event two team members per canoe had to race from one end of the lake to the other and collect a ball from a bucket. They then had to return to the starting point with it in a bucket which was balanced in the middle of the boat on an empty 40 gallon plastic barrel. Any ball dropped was discounted and the team had to fetch another ball. Teams were only allowed to transport one ball at a time and there was a time limit so speed and accurate steering was paramount.

The zipline challenge involved dropping a ball onto a target while travelling down the line .... trickier than it sounds.

Rosehall Youth Club second overall.
