Renegade Log 2022

SYH - Solent 4-16 June - Len, Bob, Murray, John (delivery), followed by Len and guests

After a testing delivery trip in awkward direction and high winds pleased to report a very enjoyable time had in the Solent, got home yesterday evening. Visited a number of the old haunts enjoying suitable refreshments in most, Yarmouth, Lymington, Cowes and of course Gosport itself.

Whilst we didn't stop at Ocean Village marina Southampton did sail past, some very impressive boats in there! Right at the entrance is a massive oligarch type cruiser. Looked like we could have fitted quite well on the aft deck!

We had good breeze at the start of the week using the motor just to depart and enter our marina(s) and even towards the end we had an enjoyable time being given a great demonstration of keeping R sailing in extremely light airs by my younger brother who has more sailing knowledge in his little finger than I ! His words stung , "any idiot can sail a boat in a good breeze or strong winds; make it go in next to no wind" -- such sibling comments still sting. Ha Ha.

SYH - Southwold - 26-27 May - Chris & David

Chris and I had a great couple of days on Renegade this week. Good generally SW winds, and a fair tide saw us averaging 6.7 knots in the sunshine, with speeds mostly above 7 and sometimes 8 knots. We entered the harbour with HM permission on the early flood following the pilotage instructions with 2m min depth inside the harbour on a 2.3m predicted tide, the HM saying actual tide was above predictions. Moored on pontoon outside HM office. £32 and showers/toilets out of action. Dinner across the river at the Bell Inn, Walberswick.

Departed Friday just before HW but still quite a tidal flow, Chris skippering us out. Despite the mainly foul tide and slightly lighter winds we still made decent speed getting back to SYH after 4pm, only 3 hours motoring over the two days.

Great couple of days in good company, R went very well.
