November Singles League report
06 December 2011

Once again things were very competitive in all the leagues in November with five games ending 9-8 and a further nine finishing 9-7. Four players, Iain Wilkie, Craig Moar, Neil Drever and Roy Griffiths finished the month undefeated and move up a league, or two in Roy’s case!

In League 1 the two Michaels, Bain and Moodie, found it tough as the three established League 1 players Stevie Linklater, Robbie Stanger and Brian Moar all finished the month with three wins each. Stevie just did enough to grab the top spot by two legs from Brian and Robbie.

Iain Wilkie and Bruce Moar eased their way back into the top flight with Iain winning their respective match 9-7. Michael Muir Jnr finished comfortably in third place to maintain his position in League 2 with Derek Farmer and Leigh Shearer dropping down.

In League 3 Ross Donaldson had another good month to finish top although he lost 7-9 to second placed Ryan Tulloch who continues to impress in his first season in the Singles Leagues. Lee MacPherson failed to show for his game against Michael Muir Snr, which gave Michael the points, and means he stays in League 3 whilst Lee drops out of the Leagues altogether. At the bottom Robert Gatt lost all his games although he had two very close 9-8 defeats to Michael Muir Snr, who took out a 100 checkout in the 17th leg, and Ryan Tulloch.

Once again, games not being played caused disruption to League 4 for the second month running, this time it was Henry Bateman who didn’t fulfil three of his fixtures. Henry did win the one game he played and that was enough to keep him in League 4 for another month. Craig Moar won all his games to move up a League including a 9-7 win over Neil Tait who joins Craig in League 3 after winning his other games. Linda Harcus and Stuart Paterson both drop down to League 5, with Stuart just edging Linda out 9-8 in their respective game.

Neil Drever eased to victory in all his games in League 5 and goes straight back up to League 4. Below Neil it was very close with Allan Brown, Gary Brown and Sean Chalmers all having two wins and two defeats so it was Gary who finished second with a +4 leg difference compared to Allan on -2 and Sean on -3. Both Allan and Sean stay in League 5 due to a player dropping out from one of the higher leagues. Andrew Watson played three of his games on the last night and eventually ran out of steam as he lost them all to slip down to League 6.

Roy Griffiths came late into the League so was squeezed into League 6 and he wasted no time winning all his games comfortably. Roy banged in three 180s, a League 6 record, as he finished top of the league, and now goes straight to League 4 for December. Hippy showed some good form to finish runner up to Roy with three wins and is promoted to League 5. Linda Ratter won her games against Colin Findlay and Paul Davis to take third place with Colin beating Paul 9-1 to leave Paul at the bottom of the leagues.

Although the leagues were very close there were still three 9-0 games and unusually two of them came in the top flight with Michael Bain going down 9-0 to Stevie Linklater and Michael Moodie being whitewashed by Robbie Stanger. The other was Craig Moar’s win over Linda Harcus.

Robbie Stanger had the most 180s in November with five and that puts him back to the top of the 180 table on eight. Robbie also had the highest checkout of the month with a 138 in his 9-2 victory over Michael Bain. Neil Drever and Stevie Linklater had the most ton plus checkouts in the month with three apiece and that is enough to keep Stevie at the top of the checkout table on eight.

There were 35 x 180’s scored by; Robbie Stanger 5, Iain Wilkie 4, Roy Griffiths 3, Stevie Linklater 3, Ross Donaldson 3, Brian Moar 2, Leigh Shearer 2, Bruce Moar 2, Michael Bain 2, Michael Muir Snr, Michael Muir Jnr, Derek Farmer, Hippy, Neil Drever, Ryan Tulloch, Craig Moar, Andrew Watson and Lee MacPherson. There were also 22 ton plus checkouts from Neil Drever 129, 118, 100, Stevie Linklater 106, 105, 104, Robbie Stanger 138, 121, Neil Tait 109, 100, Allan Brown 136, Iain Wilkie 126, Lee MacPherson 118, Ryan Tulloch 114, Brian Moar 113, Hippy 108, Robert Gatt 104, Derek Farmer 103, Ross Donaldson 101, Bruce Moar 100, Linda Ratter 100 and Michael Muir Snr 100.
