Parish Cup Latest
14 March 2011

The second semi final of the 2010-11 ODA Parish Cup took place at the end of February when last season's losing finalists Holm played host to their East Mainland rivals St.Andrews in the Commodore in what had promised to be a close match. Unfortunately for St.Andrews this was not to be the case.

With both teams at full strength Holm got off to a great start in the first half winning all their doubles to lead 3-0 going into the first series of singles. Holm continued their good form and amazingly Tone Stevenson,Leigh Shearer, Bruce Moar, Robbie Stanger, Billy Ward and Freddie Tait all won their singles to give Holm a 9-0 lead at half time, a scoreline that nobody would have predicted.

Into the second half and for the St.Andrews lads it was now all about trying to make the scoreline a bit more respectable. In the first doubles of the second half Holm pairing Bruce Moar and Billy Ward secured the win for Holm with a 2-0 victory over Fraser Laird and Sinclair Craigie with Holm skipper Moar securing the winning double. The noise level in the Commodore soon went up though when Graham Reid and Colin Kirkpatrick got the first point on the board for St.Andrews with a 2-1 win over Tone Stevenson and Sean Stanger. More high spirited cheers were soon to follow when Reid and Craigie both won their respective games 2-0 against Sean Stanger and Billy Ward but it was all in vain as Holm continued to win the remaining matches to record a very impressive 15-3 victory. St.Andrews captain Fraser Laird had the only 180 of the match while his Holm counterpart Bruce Moar had a 100 checkout. Holm's Freddie Tait, who was in good voice later in the evening, also had a 113 checkout to sing about.

So this season's Parish Cup is a re-run of last year's final, the only differ being that it will be played in the Smithfield Hotel, Sandwick's home venue, in Dounby. The Final is scheduled to take place on Saturday 26th March with a 5.30pm start.
