Singles League October Report
21 November 2010

The first month of this season’s singles league is now complete with all but three of the sixty six scheduled games being played. Unfortunately all the fixtures in League 1 weren’t completed which meant all the players ended up with two wins and two defeats. After much head scratching and checking of the rules it ended up that Robbie Stanger finished top followed by Stevie Linklater then Bruce Moar with Brian Moar and Iain Wilkie dropping down a league.

Ivan Leslie made a welcome return to the Singles League and had no trouble winning all his games to secure promotion from League 2 back into League 1. Davy Cooper and Lee MacPherson both finished tied with two wins and two defeats however Davy’s superior leg difference, thanks mainly to a 9-0 demolition job on Leigh Shearer, sees him take second spot. Both Davy and Lee join Ivan in League 1 in November due to Stevie Linklater’s withdrawal from the League. Joining Leigh in the drop to League 3 is Martin Peace who regained some form at the end of the month with fine win over Davy Cooper.

League 3 was arguably the closest of all the leagues last month with very little separating all the players. Michael Bain, Derek Farmer and Robert Gatt’s respective games against each other all finished 9-8 with Michael just edging out the other two to finish top. Derek will join Michael in League 2 after he also defeated Robert 9-8. Neil Tait and James Flett both slip down to League 4 with Neil getting a good consolation 9-4 win to leave James at the bottom.

Ross Donaldson returned to the Singles League and picked up where he left off finishing top with three wins, his only loss coming by way of a 9-7 reverse to Craig Moar. Unfortunately Colin Ross and Cammy Scott didn’t get their game finished which meant after consulting the rule book again Colin finished second, Cammy third and Craig fourth, all with two wins and two defeats. Craig has the misfortune of dropping down a league. Also dropping down will be newcomer Michael Muir who finished the month with only one win albeit a very good 9-4 victory over Cammy.

Roy Griffiths returned to the league last month and joined Colin Findlay in League 5 along with league first timers Sean Stanger, Grant Harrold and Michael Moodie. Michael won all his games to move up to League 4 including a close 9-7 win over Roy who finished second and a 9-0 whitewash of Colin Findlay. Sean remains in League 5 after finishing with two wins and Colin and Grant drop down to League 6, Grant winning their respective game 9-3.

Linda Harcus hit form and eased her way to four wins to top League 6 and gain promotion up a league. Susie Bain won three of her games including a 9-1 win over her mother-in-law Noreen Bain who slipped down a league after only picking up one win against Tracy Mathieson who joins Noreen in League 7 after losing all her games. Linda Ratter remains in League 6 after winning two of her four games.

In League 7 Stewart Moar won all his games to top the league followed by Paul Davis, Jacqui Denoon and Mike Lucas who all finished on four points.

There were 25 x 180’s scored by; Ivan Leslie 3, Stevie Linklater 3, Robbie Stanger 2, Lee MacPherson 2, Leigh Shearer 2, Bruce Moar 2, Robert Gatt 2, Grant Harrold, James Flett, Iain Wilkie, Michael Bain, Davy Cooper, Craig Moar, Ross Donaldson, Cammy Scott and Michael Muir. The November Leagues have been drawn up and have been posted on the Legion notice boards. There are three new players coming into the Leagues this month and one dropping out so after a bit of jiggling things around there will be six leagues of five players in November and one league of six players. Check out the website for regular updates on the fixtures and stats.
