Singles League February Report
05 March 2010

A mad rush of games in the final week saw all bar one of the sixty-five scheduled games being completed in February which, given the weather and the shorter month is excellent.

Once again Stevie Linklater comfortably won all his games to finish top of League 1 followed by Bruce Moar who won three of his four games. Robbie Stanger ended the month on two wins and two defeats to stay in the top league and also has the satisfaction of scoring the Singles League’s highest ever checkout, a 167 checkout against Lee MacPherson. At the foot of the table Brian Moar and Lee drop back down to League 2, Brian having the consolation of beating Lee 9-4.

Iain Wilkie hit form in League 2, winning all his games to return back to the top flight. Joining Iain is Davy Cooper who left it late but won three games including a very good 9-1 win over Leigh Shearer to finish second. After early losses to Iain and Davy, Leigh recovered well to beat Ali Flett and Martin Peace to finish third and remain in League 2 and at the bottom Ali beat Martin 9-3 but they both make the drop into League 3.

In League 3 Derek Farmer wasted no time getting all his games played, winning them all in the process, to return to League 2 and he was joined by Robert Gatt who comfortably won three of his four matches. It was very close between Ray Butcher, Aaron Moar and James Flett to decide the remaining places and it came down to the last match, Aaron v James to decide. Whoever won would stay in League 3 with the loser joining Ray in dropping to League 4, and it was James who was victorious with a 9-4 win over Aaron.

League 4 was the only uncompleted League in February. Not only did they have the weather and other fixtures to work around but they also had the added problem of Spring Tides to contend with!! The two Neils, Tait and Twatt, both made a welcome return to form to take the top positions with Neil Tait winning their respective game 9-2. Neil Tait won all three of the games he played but he and Cammy Scott didn’t manage to play their game. If Cammy had repeated the win he had over Neil in December he would have remained in League 4 but alas it was not to be and it was Craig Moar, with two wins and two defeats, that remains in League 4. Linda Harcus joins Cammy in League 5 next month.

Newcomer Colin Ross made his mark in February winning all his games in League 5 convincingly to gain promotion to League 4 at his first attempt. Linda Ratter and Craig Rendall battled it out for the second promotion place and despite Craig beating Linda 9-8 in their respective game it was Linda that pipped Craig by virtue of better leg difference after both finished with eight points. This moves Linda up to League 4 for the first time. Sean Chalmers’ two wins over Noreen Bain and Colin Findlay were enough to keep him in League 5, so it is Noreen and Colin that drop to League 6.

In League 6 Stewart Moar won all his games to move back into League 5 next month, the highlight for Stewart being his 9-0 win over Alex, the only whitewash of the month. Stewart also had a very good 111 checkout against Mike Lucas. Joining Stewart is Paul Davis who won three of his four games which included a 180 in his 9-3 win against Garry Leisk. Garry finished mid-table with six points with Mike beating Alex to leave Alex firmly rooted to the bottom for the third month in a row. Better luck next month Alex.

There were 23 x 180’s scored by; Iain Wilkie 4, Neil Tait 4, Ali Flett 2, Robert Gatt 2, Neil Twatt2, Leigh Shearer 2, Davy Cooper 2, Robbie Stanger, Stevie Linklater, Martin Peace, Bruce Moar and Paul Davis. Also worthy of a mention is Iain Wilkie’s 3 x 171’s (three treble nineteens) against Davy Cooper.
There was also 33 ton plus checkouts, which is a new monthly record from 20 different players which is also a new record. They came from Davy Cooper 140, 120 & 100, Robert Gatt 120, 106 & 104, James Flett 120,105 & 103, Robbie Stanger 167 & 107, Derek Farmer 156 & 116,  Iain Wilkie 145 & 104, Neil Twatt 132 & 108, Colin Ross 120 & 104, Lee MacPherson 108 & 105, Martin Peace 2 x 100, Neil Tait 130, Stevie Linklater 120, Craig Rendall 120, Aaron Moar 114, Ali Flett 112, Craig Moar 111, Stewart Moar 111, Brian Moar 105, Leigh Shearer 100 and Bruce Moar 100.
