Singles League December Report
19 December 2009

Singles League

After one early withdrawal in League 5 all the matches bar one were completed in November. All the leagues were very closely contested and in the 55 matches played there were twelve that finished 9-8, which is a new record, and seven that finished 9-7.

In League 1 Stevie Linklater recovered well from an early 9-7 defeat to Bruce Moar to win his remaining matches to once again finish top of League 1. Stevie’s best win of the month came in his 9-0 whitewash over Lee MacPherson. Behind Stevie, Bruce Moar, Lee MacPherson and Iain Wilkie all finished with two wins and two defeats and with their respective leg difference being -1, -2 and -3, it was Bruce that took the runner up spot and Iain that slipped down to League 2.

Robbie Stanger entered the Singles League for the first time and stormed to the top of League 2 with four comfortable wins. Robbie’s 9-0 demolition of Martin Peace goes down as result of the month closely followed by his 9-2 wins over Brian Moar and Willie Bremner. The contest to see who joined Robbie in League 1 was a close one with Willie Bemner, Martin Peace and Brian Moar all finishing with two wins and two losses apiece. Once again it went to leg difference and Willie just edged it with Brian making the drop to League 3 for the first time.

With new entries coming into the leagues this month there was only one promotion place up for grabs in League 3 and it went to Davy Cooper who won all his games to move back up to League 2. Derek Farmer, James Flett and Neil Tait all finished level on 6 points but Derek and James had superior leg difference so Neil slips down to League 4 for the first time. Derek was helped by a 9-0 win over Colin Findlay and James showed his intentions of challenging the ‘big boys’ with a good 9-8 victory over Derek.

Again in League 4 there was only one promotion place on offer and after some early mix ups with some players and their fixtures all bar one of the games was played. Neil Twatt finished the month undefeated with three wins from three but unfortunately for Neil he didn’t get his game with Aaron Moar played so he finished the month with six points. Jean MacEwan played all her games winning three to finish with seven points and it is Jean that moves back up to League 3. Noreen Bain’s 9-8 win over Ray Butcher is worthy of a mention as is Jean’s high checkouts of 115 in her 9-7 win over Ray and her 143 in her 9-4 victory over Noreen.

Unfortunately Olly Bethwaite had to work away during November and was removed from the league so it meant the remaining players in League 5 only had three games each to play. Cammy Scott was successful in all his games, just pipping new boy Sean Chalmers 9-8, to finish top and gain promotion back to League 4. Craig Moar won two of his games and remains in League 5 with Sean. Linda Harcus lost all her games and slips down a league next month but she did hit three treble nineteens for a 171 against Sean.

In League 6 Craig Rendall comfortably won all his matches, including a 9-0 win over Linda Ratter to win promotion to League 5.

There were 22 x 180’s scored by; Martin Peace 4, Leigh Shearer 3, Bruce Moar 2, Willie Bremner 2, Stevie Linklater 2, James Flett 2, Robbie Stanger 2, Craig Moar 2, Neil Twatt 2 and Brian Moar. There were also 15 ton plus checkouts from Jean MacEwan 143 & 115, Iain Wilkie 132 & 121, Lee MacPherson 120 & 110, Brian Moar 108 & 107, Martin Peace 105 & 104, Davy Cooper 130, Neil Twatt 107, Cammy Scott 105, Derek Farmer 103 and Robert Gatt 102.

There are a lot of games to be played this month and with Christmas at the end of the month it is recommended that folk don’t wait for their opponent to contact them and leave all their games to the last week. There are still some players not contacting the League Organiser with their results so all players are reminded to contact (preferably by text or email) the League Organiser with their scores immediately after they play. This makes the job easier as the tables can be updated as the games are played. Players are also reminded to inform the League organiser if they want to withdraw from the league. Timewasters will not be tolerated!!
