Singles League October Report
07 November 2009

Singles League

The first month of this season’s singles league is now complete with all bar one of the fifty scheduled games being played.

Top player once again was Stevie Linklater who won all his games in League 1. Stevie was pushed hard by Iain Wilkie and Bruce Moar who took 8 and 7 legs off him respectively but he saved his best form for Brian Moar who could do nothing to stop Stevie from winning 9-0 to record this season’s first whitewash. In the nine legs they played Stevie had nine 140’s and four 180’s, only the second time there has been four 180’s in one match.

League 2 was very competitive with Lee MacPherson, Leigh Shearer and Willie Bremner all only losing one match. Unfortunately for Willie he didn’t manage to get his last game played so it was Lee and Leigh that were promoted to League 1. Result of the month in League 2 in October would have to go to Lee MacPherson who gave Davy Cooper a sound thrashing in his 9-1 win.

League 3 went right to the final day and ended with Robert Gatt, James Flett and Jean MacEwan all finishing with three wins apiece. Once the leg difference was totalled up it was Robert that secured the top spot and promotion into League 2. James just edged out Jean for second place. Performance of the month in this league goes to Robert for his 9-1 win over Cammy Scott which included two 180’s. Also worthy of a mention is Jean MacEwan’s two ton-plus checkouts.

Colin Findlay wasted no time getting all his games played and in doing so he won three to take first place in League 4. Colin’s only defeat came by way of a 9-4 reverse to new boy Aaron Moar who also won three games. Aaron lost out on first place to Colin on leg difference. Colin’s good form is rewarded with promotion to League 3 for the first time.

It was a case of ‘Girl Power’ in League 5 with Noreen Bain winning all her games to gain promotion into League 4. Runner-up to Noreen was Linda Harcus who convincingly won three of her four matches.

There were 25 x 180’s scored by; Lee MacPherson 4, Stevie Linklater 4, Willie Bremner 2, Leigh Shearer 2, Brian Moar 2, Iain Wilkie 2, Derek Farmer 2, Bruce Moar 2, Robert Gatt 2, Garry Leisk, Davy Cooper and Martin Peace. There were also 12 ton plus checkouts from Jean MacEwan 110 & 102, Stevie Linklater 121 & 118, Leigh Shearer 136 & 108, Brian Moar 114, Bruce Moar 109, Iain Wilkie 129, Lee MacPherson 106, Derek Farmer 100 and Davy Cooper 124.

The November Leagues have been drawn up and have been posted on the Legion notice boards. There are five new players coming into the Leagues this month so after a bit of jiggling things around there will be six leagues of five players in November.

All players are reminded to contact (preferably by text or email) the League Organiser with the scores of their games as soon as possible. This makes the job easier as the tables can be updated as the games are played. Players are also reminded to turn the boards frequently to get the best out of them.
