A nut warning

Concern about Nuts

A reader who has eaten nuts for years suddenly had a violet reaction within the last few days and had to be rushed to hospital.    More and more people are experiencing reaction from nuts, which was unheard of years ago.   We wonder why?

The reader writes:

Allergies are a frightening experience
"My wife of 54 years has always eaten Peanuts, Hazel nuts, Walnuts, and
Brazil nuts in moderation and previously had no problems.  It was usually around Christmas time, never during the year.

We had a shock on Jan 6th  Sunday evening , I went to bed around 10pm my wife was up watching TV by 10.45 she came into the bedroom, she could not see out of her eyes, as  they were swollen and also her face and
throat, she could barely speak, and barley swallow, it was very
frightening for us both.

She had eaten a small amount of hazel nuts and walnuts and it was a very
bad reaction to them, although she has eaten them throughout the years.

I jumped out of bed and rushed to  A-E in Neath as if i went to
Morriston she would have gone. We arrived and  security told us they were closing, I explained the situation, he went to call a nurse who came and took us in, 4 nurses worked on her then within a few minutes a doctor came.  I must say they were a marvellous team  and we cannot thank them enough for saving her life,

They then took my wife to A-E Morriston, where she was treated ASAP, she
told me they were wonderful with her.   i had a phone call the following
morning at around 11. 30 to pick her up.

The nuts were bought from M&S which had the allergy list.
So, no more nuts for us in the future."
