Neath resident says: "Don't blame the rats"
A Neath reader reacts to "The Piped Piper" at Port Talbot:
"I see it this way, every city or town has vermin BUT what is the solution of keeping them to an acceptable level?
In this day and age we have places such as Burger King, McDonald's,etc. people eat out these days and the discarded food is
just simply thrown onto the floor.
In fact. I have seen 2 teenagers in a car by Burger King in Neath throwing
their unwanted food on the floor, this is the problem.
It's much the same as throwing a cigarette on the floor.
We have litter wardens, but they can only do so much and what they do
an excellent job.
But why do we need them? We did not have them years ago because
there was no food outlets, and we were a lot cleaner in our habits in
those days.
There is no respect in today's society and some think they can do as
they like.
I wrote to the Evening Post many years ago saying we need litter
wardens and anyone dropping litter will have to pay an on the spot fine.
That never came off, although we do have the litter wardens, surely
they could fine the culprits, other cities and town have that authority
to do so.
So as I see it, one can not blame the Rats, the Rats are the
inconsiderate humans who have no manners and no pride in their town.
These inconsiderate people can be captured on a phone camera these days
and should be named and shamed in the local press and again on Facebook, and then perhaps they will not drop food in the future."

Hopefully, the Neath Port Talbot Council will not extend their cutbacks to rodent control and follow the example of other councils and not charge for rodent operations at domestic properties. Currently they charge £40.
