Do you know where the nearest fire hydrant to your home is located?

A reader has expressed his concern over location of fire hydrants near homes, schools and shops.   The photograph (right) shows how they should be marked.    If the one near you is not marked then report it to your councillor or the fire service.

Care should be taken not to park cars over them - something that most people don't think about.    We must be aware of domestic fires now that we use more electrical appliances than ever - and keep in mind the major fire at the Grenfill tower block.

On top of this we must remember that more houses are timber clad and have plastic insulation in the walls, which burns more quickly.
