Mike Davies has written in to say that he has had Wax Wing visitors from Russia.

Keep a look out in your garden. These Waxwing were taken in Cadoxton Neath on Jan 18th I noticed a flock of  small birds circulating over head, at first I thought they were sparrows.  They landed on trees opposite the house which had lots of berries on, and on a closer look they were  to my surprise they were Waxwing's.
They are quite rare to be seen in these neck of the woods as they arrive from Russia and Scandinavia

Where to see them

The first British arrivals each winter are usually seen on the east coast from Scotland to East Anglia, but birds move inland in search of food, increasing the chances of seeing one inland.

When to see them

October to March.

What they eat

Berries, particularly rowan and hawthorn, but also cotoneaster and rose.
