118 118 taken to task by media

Telephone directory charges, including 118 118, have been the subject of a press report about what is charged by the118 service providers.

It is alleged that using the 118 118 number for a single inquiiry can cost £6 - compared with the old BT 192 service charge, which cost 40p before it was scrapped 12 years ago.

The exception to the high charges made by all the 118 service providers is SIMUNIX (118 365) which is run by the John Lewis group - they charge 50p per call plus a 10p landline access charge.

Many telephone users now use Google to find the telephone number they want.

Perhaps our readers could advise elderly neighbours about this before they get a shock with their telephone bill.
