Names with a credit to Neath

Of all those who have brought credit and fame to Neath, the council is considering naming the town's South access road: 'Nelson Mandela Way'.

Our Readers' Letters page suggest that this is being done without the approval of residents.   Surely, as a matter of democracy, the residents of Neath should have a say in this?

Going by the feedback we are getting there is likely to be an unexpected backlash if this naming goes ahead.   With respect, we think we have our ear closer to the ground than many councillors.   And remember, one of our roles is to give feedback in good faith to councillors - accepting it is a question of their judgement, at least, we can only represent the feelings of residents.
