Dog bites finger off Cllr Janice Dudley

Dog bites finger off Cllr Janice Dudley

When delivering leaflets about a forthcoming Christmas community event, Cllr Janice Dudley had the tip of one of her fingers bitten off by a dog as she pushed a leaflet through the letter box of a house at South Bryncoch

Cllr Dudley said there was no warning, no sign of barking, as if the dog was lying in wait.

"It could have been a young child putting a Christmas card though the letter box, it is quite a serious situation," said Cllr Dudley.

After the incident, Cllr Dudley was taken to the accident and emergency unit at a local hospital and given treatment for her injuries and for shock.  She will be unable to drive for the next week or so.

All readers are warned not to stick their fingers through letter boxes when delivering Christmas cards by hand and to warn young children of the dangers.

Owners of dogs who are likely to act this way should put a warning sign adjacent to the letter box.

Remember cats can also be a problem when unexpected fingers come through a letter box.

Always be on your guard when you are on other peoples' property.

Report bad animal behaviour to the police to prevent problems before they happen.   Telephone 101.
