How safe are our beaches?

Are our beaches safe?

With the raw sewage being dumped in the river at Neath it makes one wonder how safe our beaches are during this hot weather?
Yet another reader writes in with his concern.   The problem is not new - it is just that the hot weather is bringing it to everyone's attention.

The point is that when the hot weather goes the matter will be out of people's minds.   As one reader rightly says, the drains and sewage system in Neath should be sorted out before the town's development takes place.   The authorities must get their priorities right - the public's health depends on it.

It is strange that we have had no comment from councillors about this - we know it is a sensitive matter but something should be said.   Perhaps it is about time the council's media department got organised?   If councllors don't want to speak individually then perhaps the council could speak with one voice through their media department.   This, at least, would be better that the current sound of silence.
