Following the concern expressed on this website about the fire spread risk in timber framed/clad terraced houses, the matter was taken up with the Fire Service by Cllr Janice Dudley. This has resulted in the following report:-
FIRE SAFETY AND LOCAL AUTHORITY WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP.
The Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Authority _Partners in Promoting
Fire Safety in Rented Properties within Neath Port Talbot.
We have joined forces to promote free Home Safety Checks. Fire Crews
will be working with Housing Associations in a bid to raise standards of
privately rented accommodation to Keep tenants Safe.
800 letters have been forwarded to known landlords encouraging them to
take up this fantastic offer which is provided by the Fire Service.
The Checks will raise levels of Fire protection and offer assistance in
planning escape routs as well as installing new smoke detectors with 10
year batteries, it will be an early warning but this is an interim
measure as however current standards now recommend that standard smoke
alarms are replaced with mains operated linked smoke detectors, we hope
that this will encourage Landlords to upgrade as the project progresses.
As Chair of the Audit Committee on the Fire Authority I am keen to
encourage Partnership working as it is a cost effective way forward and
productive in contacting more of the population within the Authority.

	Keep Safe.
