Andrew Jenkins elected for Neath South

Turnout in the Neath South election, caused by the death of Malcolm Gunter, was a very disappointing at 14.5%. While expected at this time of year and with the weather we had yesterday, it still comes as a disappointment.

Charlotte Cross of the Welsh Liberal Democrats received 130 votes, while Andrew Jenkins, Welsh Labour, received 399 votes.

Andrew writes: "It was a good campaign and I have no doubt that Charlotte will be a candidate again at some point in the future. It is great to see more younger people stand for office."

The Neath Ferret editorial team wish to congratulate Andrew who has long flown the flag for Welsh Labour on this website, helping to keep it balanced with others of opposing views.

Andrew also has own page on the new Neath Guardian website, which we hope will again be active now that his election campaign is over.   It is fair to say that Andrew shares our view that there should be more feedback to the electorate.
