Who wants Santa's Grotto here in Neath?   It seems that opinions are divided (see our letters page). Should it be a traders inititive, because they get the benefit from drawing crowds? Or should it be done by the council as a communal venture?

As said before, if left to traders, as in days of old, the town could be full of Santas? Or maybe not - the days of departmental stores in Neath is almost gone.

The model answer is at the Aberafan Shopping Centre, which is within the same county borough authority.   Whoever is responsible for that gets it right.   As for Neath, the question is open.   Perhaps Santa will help in the forthcoming town redevelopment?
