Empire Demolition

Empire demolition to start.

From reports received, we understand that demolition of Neath's oldest entertainment centre, the Empire Neath, will start week commencing 11th June - or soon after.

Built in 1926, in the days of silent films, with a cafe and ballroom on the ground floor, the building is to be demolished after providing entertainment for the residents of Neath for nearly 90 years.

A plaque of shame is to be made bearing all the names of the councillors and planning officials who made the decision to demolish the building - with most not viewing the interior as it is now and seeing its great potential for the people of Neath.

And it came to pass..........   that no-one really cares, at least, no one in authority. No response from the council, no resonse from councilors, no reponse from the MP for Neath - Peter Hain.

The population of Neath is increasing and the entertainment and community facilitities are deceasing - and no-one cares.   While other towns and cities are being positive and doing something, Neath is being negative and doing nothing.

The result is to drive people out of town - rather than use a building within walking distance of their homes in densely populated area.    It's planning gone mad and without thought!

Yes... without thought ..........  No thought given to the site for self-contained retirementment homes within walking distance of the town centre and Victoria Gardens.   No thought that car transport would NOT be needed.   No thought for the fact that the only form of transport (possibly) would be mobilibity scooters that take no space and are easy to park.   No thought for the fact that Neath has an ageing population and that something realistic could be built on the site.   Yes, it is simply no thought for the future and the needs of residents of Neath.

Shame on the the planning department and the councilors for an ill conceived plan and no thought for the future.  It will be recorded in the Internet and be remembered by future generations.
