Candidate situation

Missing Labour candidates

In an attempt to clarify the situation on Labour's position in the forthcoming council elections on 3rd May 2012, and to get information on 'missing' candidates, we contacted Rob James who tells us he is the campaign co-ordinator and spokesperson for the Neath Labour campaign.

Mr James said: "The short campaign is about to start and we will all know who is standing in what wards on April 6th with the Publication of Candidates. Until that day we are all prospective and not official candidates and a week in politics is a long time".

Martyn Peters (Plaid Cymru), of Dyffryn Clydach said he is puzzled why there is no contender (that he knows of) for his seat in view of the fact that there are two Labour Councillors from Dyffryn Clydach standing in other areas.  As mentioned above, we should know the names of all candidates by 6th April.  Cllr Peter's added that the two Labour candidates are benefitting from a lower precept council tax charge because Dyffyn Clydach Plaid Cymru Community Council has frozen its charge for the fourth year running.   As far as the main council tax charge is concerned, he said that NPT CBC were the second highest in the whole of Wales - having risen it by nearly 2%.
